Limits on malpractice awards involving UW doctors challenged

A Verona woman who won a $1.8 million jury award for her husband’s death in a lawsuit against a UW-Madison doctor is challenging a cap on damages against state-employed doctors, which limits the payment to $250,000. (WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL, 7/30)

Barron County says no to new federal health reform law positions

Barron County voted last week against hiring new staff paid for by state and federal funding to help with federal health reform law enrollment efforts. Gov. Scott Walker's budget includes $38.1 million for county income maintenance consortia. Wisconsin Counties Association's senior legislative associate Sarah Diedrick-Kasdorf said she's unaware of any other county voting against the new positions (WHN, 7/25)

Medical College sets target dates for new campuses

The Medical College of Wisconsin plans to welcome the first students to its Green Bay campus in the summer of 2015 and start its Central Wisconsin program one year later. In a statement, president Dr. John Raymond said the dispersed geography of Central Wisconsin "merits special attention to detail and careful implementation." (WHN, 7/25)
