Department of Health Services Secretary Kitty Rhoades told the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services last week that the state is concluding its participation in the federal pilot program for integrating care for dual eligibles after CMS indicated that DHS's latest proposal would need "major revisions." The Department of Health Services is canceling Wisconsin Well Woman Program contracts with hundreds of providers and local health departments and rebuilding its network with "health systems and key organizations that reach large populations." (WHN, 12/20)

Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel should approve UnityPoint Health's acquisition of Physicians Plus, an OCI panel recommended Wednesday. The panel also said that the public hearing process was not the venue to address Unity Health Plan's concern that the acquisition will cause confusion in the marketplace because of the similar name. Wisconsin Hospital Association Executive Vice President Eric Borgerding will succeed Steve Brenton as president and CEO starting Jan. 1, 2015, WHA announced Thursday. Brenton will remain on with the organization as senior policy advisor. (WHN, 12/19)
