DHS report details suicide burden in Wisconsin

The annual number of suicides between 2007 and 2011 in Wisconsin averaged 724, according to a new report released by the Department of Health Services in partnership with Mental Health America of Wisconsin and the Injury Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin. (WHN, 7/31)

Milwaukee County substance abuse program loses key federal grant

As the newly installed Milwaukee County Mental Health Board begins to reshape how care is delivered in the county, a key program for people with substance abuse problems is losing a major funding source. Officials at the WIser Choice network learned late last month they were losing $3.5 million in federal grants, a 30 percent reduction in the program's funding, starting in 2015. (WHN, 7/30)

Assurant Health to pay $30.8M in Obamacare rebates – most in nation

Rich Kirchen of the Business Journal reports:"Companies owned by Milwaukee-based Assurant Health will pay consumers $30.8 million in rebates nationwide - more than any other health insurer - for violating an Obamacare rule that requires health insurers to spend the vast majority of premiums on medical care or activities to improve health care quality."
