Froedtert Hospital achieves national recognition for nursing excellence

Milwaukee, WI (January 21, 2016) – Marking its third consecutive achievement, Froedtert Hospital has again attained Magnet® designation as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® recognizing excellence in nursing. Only 425 of the nation’s roughly 6,000 health care systems have achieved Magnet recognition status. This credential is the highest honor an organization can receive for nursing excellence through successful nursing practices and strategies. Froedtert Hospital first achieved Magnet designation in 2006.

“Magnet recognition is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects our commitment to delivering the highest quality of care in our community,” said Cathy Buck, president of Froedtert Hospital. “To earn Magnet recognition just once was a great accomplishment and an incredible source of pride for our nurses. To achieve it three times in 10 years affirms that our nurses consistently provide not only exceptional nursing care, but the highest quality and service as well.”

Magnet recognition has become the gold standard for nursing excellence and is taken into consideration when the public judges healthcare organizations. U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of “America’s Best Hospitals” includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care.

Magnet designation is achieved through a rigorous and lengthy process that involves the review of thousands of pages of documentation and a thorough site visit by professional appraisers who evaluate organizations against stringent quantitative and qualitative standards that epitomize excellence in nursing service, clinical outcomes, and patient care delivery. Designated organizations must reapply after four years.
