Joy, a first-grader at Leopold Elementary School, got protective sealants on two of her teeth recently in the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, a rolling dental clinic parked outside the school. The clinic, serving southcentral Wisconsin since 2003, has a new mission. Instead of providing only fillings and extractions, it now offers sealants and fluoride varnish, which help prevent cavities. Allcare Dental & Dentures, which closed its offices nationwide on Dec. 31, transferred records of its Wisconsin patients to Dental Associates, which has one office in Green Bay and three in the Appleton area. Allcare patients can contact Dental Associates for continued care, to follow up on care under way, or to retrieve their records, Anthony Vastardis, Dental Associates CEO, said Monday. Twenty-three state legislatorS and 16 legislative staffers attended the first Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) Dental Academy. The WDA Dental Academy provided legislators and their staff with an opportunity to learn what dental care is, who is providing the care, how dentists are trained in the state of Wisconsin, and what the needs are for Medicaid participants and local dentists now and in the future. Complaints from patients at Allcare Dental and Denture offices in Ashwaubeon and Appleton are being referred to district attorneys in the respective counties, the state said Friday.
