Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin rolls out new services for older adults and people with disabilities

–Medicaid Coordinated Health Care for Individuals Receiving Supplemental Security Income Begins August 1

MILWAUKEE – July 30, 2015 Beginning in August, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin, in partnership with the state Department of Health Services (DHS), will offer Medicaid coordinated health care and services for members receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).  SSI is a monthly cash benefit for people in financial need who are 65 or older, or people of any age who are blind or disabled.

The Medicaid SSI Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) is a new offering from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for Wisconsin residents receiving SSI benefits. Under the new Medicaid SSI HMO, members who receive SSI benefits will also qualify for Wisconsin Medicaid without having to complete a separate application. Eligible Wisconsin residents can enroll in Medicaid SSI HMO immediately and coverage will begin August 1.

“Within the communities we serve, nearly 30,000 Wisconsin residents are eligible for Medicaid SSI services,” said Leon Lamoreaux, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicaid health plan in Wisconsin. “We are dedicated to providing the best health care for our members and look forward to becoming a trusted partner for them and their families, which we hope will make their lives a little bit easier.”

Wisconsin Medicaid is a health care program for elderly, blind or disabled Wisconsin residents. Currently, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield offers coordinated health care and services for members enrolled in BadgerCare Plus, a health care program for low-income Wisconsin residents.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield also offers Medicaid services in 23 counties around Wisconsin including: Brown, Calumet, Dodge, Door, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Kenosha, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Oconto, Outagamie, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Shawano, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago.
