EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire had the most improved response time in delivering critical stroke care among 28 Wisconsin hospitals participating in a national stroke wellness program. Staff members accepted an award for “Most Improved Door-to-Needle Time from Quarter 1 to Quarter 2 in 2014” from the Coverdell Stroke Program.

“Response time is so important to improving the outcome of stroke victims,” says Kelly Buchholz, director of Neurology at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. “Our care team has really pulled together to deliver critical care to our stroke patients faster.”

Mayo Clinic Health System staff lowered their time in injecting medications into patients to dissolve stroke-causing agents from 71 to 47 minutes.

The Wisconsin Coverdell Stroke Program is an alliance of health care facilities working together to share information and improve community awareness to improve outcomes of anyone experiencing a stroke. The alliance is made possible through a three-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program and contributions from participating organizations and partners.
