MADISON, Wis. – More than 250 people came to the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on December 17 to play Texas Hold’em and enjoy an evening of entertainment for a good cause. The second annual Phil Hellmuth’s Hold’em with HospiceCare Celebrity Poker Event sponsored by Baker Tilly generated $110,000 for the people served by Agrace HospiceCare, south central Wisconsin’s nonprofit community hospice providing assistance to more than 600 area patients and families each day.
Funds raised help support Agrace services and programming such as volunteer recruitment, coordination and training; clinical education and training; outreach programs and grief and bereavement services—which provide support to anyone in the community whether or not they have used Agrace before.
Poker players went head-to-head against Phil “The Poker Brat” Hellmuth throughout the tournament, in addition to testing their Texas Hold’em skills alongside local and national celebrities including Jerry Kelly, Mark Johnson, Derek Engler and poker pros Annette Obrestad, Eric Baldwin, Eddie Bluementhal and many more. The tournament was won by Laura Schultz of Madison.
The evening also included a silent auction featuring a 2010 Masters Flag signed by Steve Stricker, a boxing glove autographed by Sylvester Stallone, a rare Srixon Z-Star golf driver from Jerry Kelly and many exclusive sports memorabilia items. Also raffled off were a two-year lease on a Zimbrick Honda Civic LX that went to Tiffany Schreiber and the grand prize, a seat to play in the 2012 World Series of Poker (a $10,000 value), won by Jerry Mistele.
Agrace HospiceCare has been providing physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and families dealing with life-limiting conditions for more than 30 years. Formerly known as HospiceCare Inc., Agrace HospiceCare is a nonprofit, community-based hospice that took on its new name in 2011. With offices in Madison and Janesville, Agrace HospiceCare serves residents in Dane, Green, Jefferson, Rock and Walworth counties.
