CMS releases Pioneer ACO data for first two years

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently released data for the first two years of its 23 Pioneer Accountable Care Organizations, showing the financial and quality performance for two organizations serving parts of Wisconsin.

Bellin-Thedacare Healthcare Partners’ Pioneer ACO saw a 2.1 percent total savings increase, amounting to $3.21 million in savings. During the second year, it received $2.27 million in earned shared savings. In its first year in 2012, Bellin-Thedacare saw a 4.6 percent increase in gross savings, savings of $7.62 million and received $5.34 million in earned shared savings.

Minnesota-based Allina Health’s Pioneer ACO, which provides coverage for parts of Western Wisconsin, saved $10,000 in its first year, with a shared savings percentage of 0 percent. During 2013, the percentage went up to 1.7 percent and the pioneer ACO saved $1.87 million. It did not receive any earned shared savings payments in either year.
