MADISONThe average baby may go through 7,500 diapers in a year, and for some families, the cost may be overwhelming.

The UW Health departments of obstetrics and gynecology and midwifery hope to ease these financial burdens with a community blanket and diaper drive now through May 31.   New diapers, and new and gently used blankets may be dropped off at the following locations:

  • UW Hospital and Clinics; 600 Highland Avenue
  • American Family Children’s Hospital; 1675 Highland Avenue
  • UW Health 20 South Park Clinic
  • UW Health West Towne Clinic; 7102 Mineral Point Road
  • UW Health West Clinic; 451 Junction Road
  • UW Health Fitchburg Clinic; 5543 East Cheryl Parkway
  • UW Health East Clinic; 5249 East Terrace Drive
  • UW Health East Towne Clinic; 4122 East Towne Boulevard

Diapers and blankets will also be accepted at Meriter Hospital and the Meriter Business Center off Rimrock Road.

Donations will go to the Baby Depot at Dane County Head Start.

While diapers are a necessity for mothers raising newborns, blankets can also provide infants with a sense of comfort, and babies will often sleep longer and wake less often.  Plain cotton blankets are usually most durable, and babies also like blankets with satin-edging because they like the touch and feel of smooth fabrics.
