A national nonprofit lauds a recent federal funding bill to fight Alzheimer’s and plans to hold a conference this week in Milwaukee to provide support for those taking care of people with the disease.
The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s free Thursday conference at the Milwaukee Athletic Club is part of a nationwide tour. So far, they’ve held meetings in 26 states.
“This is a national epidemic,” Foundation CEO Charles Fuschillo told Wisconsin Health News.
Fuschillo lauded a recent federal budget bill that appropriated $2.34 billion for Alzheimer’s research and to support caregivers.
“This is the sixth leading cause of death without a cure,” he said. “The money should have been there years ago. We’re hopeful that it continues.”
He said the conference is meant to “empower individuals with better information about caregiving strategies.”
Fuschillo said that more than 110,000 Wisconsinites live with Alzheimer’s.
