The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection said Wednesday that it’s taken action against Wisconsin businesses accused of price gouging during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The agency issued cease-and-desist letters to 16 companies suspected of raising prices unlawfully during the state’s public health emergency. They include Menards and N95Sales.com, both suspected of price gouging on N95 masks.
Other businesses are being investigated for raising prices on surgical masks, cleaners, food and toilet paper.
“While it is not uncommon for prices to increase during times of high demand or low supply DATCP will be closely monitoring the marketplace to ensure Wisconsin consumers are being treated fairly,” said Lara Sutherlin, administrator for the agency’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection.
