COVID-19 case count surpasses 80,000

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state surpassed 80,000 this weekend.

There were 81,760 COVID-19 cases as of Monday afternoon, after the Department of Health Services reported 567 new cases. There were 946 new cases reported Saturday and 893 on Sunday.

So far, a total of 1,308,553 people have been tested.

There were 15 deaths reported Saturday, but none on Sunday and Monday. The total number of deaths is 1,168.

As of Monday, the seven-day average of new daily cases was 880, and the seven-day positivity rate was 10.2 percent.

Wisconsin set a new record for its one-day positivity rate on Sunday, with 16.2 percent of test results coming back positive.

The state also reported 1,498 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, a new record. DHS attributed that to now resolved laboratory test reporting issues.

There were 289 total COVID-19 patients in Wisconsin hospitals as of Monday afternoon, per the Wisconsin Hospital Association. Of those, 91 were in intensive care units.
