The Department of Health Services reported a record 4,591 new cases on Tuesday, in part due to a backlog of positive cases that health departments are working through after the state’s disease surveillance system underwent an upgrade this weekend.
DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm told reporters that case numbers will likely be higher over the next few days and encouraged people to look at the seven-day averages instead. The seven-day average for new daily cases is 3,287.
There were 33 deaths, the second highest reported after 34 on Oct. 13. There have been 1,633 deaths.
An additional 13,661 more people were tested, for a total 1,891,365.
The seven-day average percent positive per person tested was 21.7 percent as of Monday, while the seven-day average percent positive per test was 12 percent.
