a record high for new daily COVID-19 cases on Friday, the third time it’s done so this week.

There were 6,141 new cases, for a total of 256,065 in the state. The Department of Health Services said that 54,684 of those cases were active.

DHS reported a near-record 62 deaths, bringing the total to 2,256. The state’s all-time high for daily deaths was on Oct. 27, when it reported 64 deaths.

An additional 20,785 more people were tested, for a total of 2,152,522.

As of Thursday, the seven-day positivity rate per person was 33 percent, and the seven-day positivity rate per test was 16.8 percent.

Five patients were at the surge facility in West Allis on Friday morning.
