Granite Hills Hospital to open adolescent unit

Granite Hills Hospital, a behavioral healthcare provider in West Allis, plans to open its adolescent unit on Monday. The unit will serve patients 12 and up.

The provider also expects to start offering outpatient services next month, with plans to launch an adult intensive outpatient program.

On Thursday, the hospital had a census of 24 adults. It opened in January and received accreditation from the Joint Commission in June. It’s continuing to bring on new employees and providing ongoing training to staff.

“Our goal here, obviously, is to increase our patient census in order to meet the needs of the community,” CEO Jennifer Bergersen told members of the Milwaukee County Mental Health Board at a Thursday meeting.

Bergersen said that she’ll be stepping down from her position next week. Robin Weagley, interim director of joint venture operations at Pennsylvania-based Universal Health Services, which operates Granite Hills, will serve as the interim leader of the hospital.
