Green Bay – These days, there isn’t much you can’t do online. For some residents in Northeast Wisconsin, that will soon include a visit to the doctor’s office. On April 1, 2015, Prevea Health will begin piloting a first-of-its kind, video medicine service in Northeast Wisconsin called, My Video Visit.
What is My Video Visit?
In just a matter of clicks on a computer or smartphone, My Video Visit allows patients to meet with a quality health care professional through real-time, video chat. The service will be offered through MyPrevea– a secure, online portal that provides patients access to their health records, allows them to schedule or view upcoming appointments, message their provider, refill their prescriptions and more.
Prevea Health has offered MyPrevea to its patients since 2006. Other medical providers in Northeast Wisconsin offer services similar to MyPrevea, but without the addition of the video visit experience.
“The addition of My Video Visit to MyPrevea will allow patients a more convenient option of receiving health care,” said Dr. Ashok Rai, President and CEO of Prevea Health. “Patients who choose this option will receive the same level of quality and care coordination that they would experience in-person at any of our health centers.”
Who can use My Video Visit?
In its pilot stage, My Video Visit will only be offered to employees of select companies that have contracted with Prevea Health to provide worksite clinics for employees. Prevea Health plans to roll out My Video Visit services to all patients across Northeast Wisconsin later this summer.
Types of health concerns that can be addressed through My Video Visit include allergies, bites and stings, burns/sunburn, coughs/colds, ear pain, flu, headache, laceration evaluation, pink eye/stye, sinus infections, skin infections, sore throat, sprain/strain and urinary tract infections.
How does My Video Visit work?
At the time of their scheduled appointment, a patient will log on to their MyPrevea account then click on the link that identifies their My Video Visitscheduled appointment. Once the patient and provider have both logged on for the scheduled appointment, the My Video Visit session will begin, allowing the patient and provider to see and interact with each other in real-time.
An Example
My Video Visit would allow a patient with a minor burn on their arm to hold up their arm to the camera on their computer or smartphone to allow the provider a closer look at the burn. My Video Visit technology would also allow the provider to take still photos of the burn to be included in the patient’s medical records and to help determine the next step in the patient’s care. Since Prevea Health’s medical records system is also incorporated into My Video Visit technology, a provider could also refer to a patient’s medical records during the My Video Visit session.
