MILWAUKEE – A shift in oversight of Milwaukee County’s Interim Disability Assistance Program (IDAP) will mean an easier application process for clients. IDAP is a county-funded program that provides monthly payments to eligible residents who are unable to work due to a disability and have a high probability of receiving federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Currently, Community Advocates manages part of the IDAP program and the Disability Services Division (DSD) manages the remainder. Beginning May 1, 2015, Community Advocates will assume full oversight of the program.
This change will allow for more coordination and efficiency in the overall operation of the program. It will also streamline the application and approval process to help clients receive benefits faster. Community Advocates also has legal assistance available that could lead to higher rates of application approvals.
“Having one agency that handles the entire program is something that just makes sense,” said Geri Lyday, Administrator of Milwaukee County’s Disabilities Services Division. “We are happy to be partnering with Community Advocates to make this process easier for the thousands of people who apply ever year.”
