UnitedHealthcare recognizes Bellin Health, MGIC Investment Corp. and the School District of Waukesha for successful worksite wellness program

MILWAUKEE (Aug. 7, 2015) – UnitedHealthcare has announced the winners of its “Well Deserved” award, an annual honor given to employers that have implemented innovative, industry-leading worksite wellness programs that helped improve their employees’ health and well-being.

Bellin Health has incorporated a comprehensive wellness program that has incredible reach, with 100 percent participation and demonstrated results. Not only does the company’s wellness program promote a culture of health, but Bellin Health is able to demonstrate actual dollar savings based on tracking shifts in risk and incurred claims total costs.

Specifically, Bellin Health’s wellness program includes:

MGIC’s wellness program has created a positive and healthy culture throughout the company. MGIC, based in Milwaukee, has offered wellness incentives to their employees for several years and now includes an outcomes-based program that includes meeting with a physician and discussing appropriate preventive screenings.

Fitness is one critical component of wellness and the company incentivizes employees not only for participating in fitness classes, but specifically for cardio and strength training. The company also created a flexibility ticket that enables employees to attend fitness classes at different times to allow for more of a work-life balance.  Additionally, MGIC promotes healthier snacking as vending machines now contain at least 60 percent healthy snacks.

The School District of Waukesha created a wellness program that engages not only teachers and staff, but also students and community members. The school district has an annual Run/Walk that coincides with a community health fair. Not only does this event raise funds for education, it also brings the schools and community together to learn about healthy behaviors.

The school district has created fun and innovative methods to increase engagement. From “post a picture of your lunch” to dancing at the end of all school assemblies, the initiatives make being healthy and fit an activity everyone can enjoy. Another key component of the district’s program is mental health. Waukesha has a seasonal morale boosting initiative that promotes giving back to the community to boost personal morale, and an empowerment week that focuses on being supportive and positive with others.

Other organizations earning a Well Deserved award include:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, worksite wellness programs “can improve employee satisfaction, reduce stress, decrease absenteeism and increase productivity.” UnitedHealthcare data reveal that worksite wellness programs may result in lower medical costs and better primary and preventive health care decisions for employees who participate.

“UnitedHealthcare congratulates these companies for encouraging a culture of health at their workplaces and helping their employees live healthier lives,” said Dustin Hinton, president and CEO, UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin. “A healthier and more engaged workforce can lead to better health as well as increased employee satisfaction and productivity.”

This is UnitedHealthcare’s seventh year of recognizing employer customers with “Well Deserved” awards for their outstanding health and wellness programs, working with an external broker review panel to review and judge all applicants.
