WDA Foundation awards more than $55,000 to 16 dental health programs

WEST ALLIS, WIS., Aug. 13, 2015 – The Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation has announced $55,670 ingrants and designated funding to 16 programs that bring oral health care to low-income Wisconsin residents and provide other dentistry-related services in 2015.

Madison’s AIDS Network will use a $5,000 grant to purchase dental clinic supplies and pay laboratory fees. In 2015, this clinic merged with the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin to provide the most comprehensive care possible to those living with HIV/AIDS in the Badger State.

The Bread of Healing Clinic annually serves more than 1,500 low-income individuals with chronic health conditions in Milwaukee’s north central neighborhoods. A $5,000 grant will go toward the purchase of dental operatory equipment and supplies, so more extractions and restorative care can be provided.

Brown County Oral Health Partnership is receiving $5,000 toward supplies and equipment. The program is expanding its oral health services into school-based settings, so more children can receive care.

The Lafayette County Health Department will purchase fluoride mouth rinse with its $2,000 grant to help improve the oral health of area school children in the first through sixth grades.

Ministry Door County Medical Center Dental Clinic inSturgeon Bay provides free oral health care to low-income families in Door and Kewaunee counties. A $5,000 grant will be used to purchase needed dental health supplies.

Rawhide Inc. in New London is a nonprofit, residential care center that welcomes approximately 120 troubled teen boys each year to its program. Rawhide’s young residents will benefit from $5,000 in personal oral hygiene supplies and dental care provided through a WDA Foundation grant.

Shawano County Healthy Smiles$1,810 grant will purchase preventive and personal dental hygiene supplies for use in area schools. Shawano County Dental Society volunteers help with screenings, sealant and fluoride varnish treatments and oral hygiene education.

St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care’s Smiles for Sister Lucille Program in Milwaukee is receiving $1,500 toward home care and in-center dental supplies needed to improve the oral health of its elderly clients.

A primary source of charitable dental care for Milwaukee’suninsured residents, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Dental Clinic will use its $4,000 grant to purchase new handpieces for use by dentists in its clinic.

Tri-County Community Dental Clinic depends on volunteer dental professionals to treat underserved residents of Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebagocounties. Its Focus on the Children school-based program will use a $5,000 grant to provide students with preventive and restorative care and oral health education.

A $5,000 grant will be used by Waukesha County Community Dental Clinic to purchase needed supplies for its oral health education and outreach programs.

The seventh WDA Mission of Mercy held in June in Fond du Lac received $3,000 in funding to help defray costs associated with 1,230 volunteers delivering $1.02 million in care to 1,304 children and adults during the two-day clinic.

Donated Dental Services is receiving $3,000 to help it continue providing free, comprehensive dental care to Wisconsin adults who cannot work due to a permanent disability, chronic illness or advanced age, and whose needs are not met by public aid programs. Dentists Concerned for Dentists will use a $3,360 grant to increase awareness of how the program can help dental professionals struggling with alcohol or chemical dependency, depression, infectious diseases and other well-being issues.

The Marquette University School of Dentistry expansion project received $1,000 toward a multiple-year foundation pledge.

Another $1,000 supports the WDA Foundation’s toothbrush and toothpaste Smile Program.

The WDA Foundation has distributed more than $590,000 to worthy oral health programs across the state since 2000.
