Security Health Plan investing $100,000 in Healthy Aging Grants in 2016

MARSHFIELD – To promote health education and support for older adults, Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., today announced that it will invest $100,000 in Healthy Aging Grant in 2016.

“Most aging adults know they can benefit from regular exercise and a nutritious diet, but injury and health conditions can make it difficult to follow healthy lifestyles,” said Jay Shrader, director of disease management and wellness. “Through a Healthy Aging Grant program Security Health Plan will invest in community programs and initiatives that provide health education and support for older adults.”

Grant applications may include evidence-based community classes on topics such as nutrition, physical activity, fall prevention, chronic disease and behavioral health. Funding can be used for new projects and programs or to improve programs that already exist.

The application period for Healthy Aging Grants is under way, with letters of intent due by March 25. The grants are for one year, and the funds will be distributed the week of June 20. More information is available at www.securityhealth.org/communitygiving.

“We’ll be looking at initiatives that focus on improving the health and quality of life of aging adults,” Shrader said. “We’re looking forward to the opportunities these grants will provide to our members and communities.”
