Dean Health Plan receives 4.5-star rating for 2019 Medicare Advantage

Dean Health Plan is proud to announce its Medicare Advantage plans earned 4.5 out of 5 stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of its annual assessment of all Medicare Advantage plans. This rating is for the 2019 plan year, which starts on Jan. 1.

CMS calculates and shares Star Ratings each year for Medicare health and drug plans to help beneficiaries and their families compare plans based on quality and performance. Earning a 4.5-Star Rating is considered strong performance and demonstrates Dean’s commitment to providing high quality care and service. No other Medicare Advantage Plan in Wisconsin scored better.

Ratings range from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest score and 1 being the lowest. The 2019 overall plan rating is based on health care and service quality measures across several categories, including: detecting illness and helping members stay healthy, managing chronic conditions, member satisfaction and pharmacy services.

This overall plan rating is extremely important because it gives a single score, so consumers can easily compare plans based on their quality and performance. CMS rated 376 Medicare Advantage contracts this year. For 2019, only 20.5% of plans in the U.S. reached 4.5 stars or better.

Dean Health Plan, a member of SSM Health, connects a strong network of health care providers, innovative hospitals, and comprehensive insurance coverage into one integrated health care system.

Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. For more information on Star Ratings, visit Medicare.gov.
