Milwaukee County officials have opened a temporary shelter with the Saint Francis de Sales Seminary and the Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee for county residents with housing instability. The shelter aims to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
The partnership includes temporary beds that began opening Monday at Clare Hall at the seminary in St. Francis. All 19 municipalities will work together to identify those facing housing instability who are symptomatic.
The unit will be staffed by the Milwaukee Health Department and Wisconsin National Guard. The city of Milwaukee provided supplies, the health department will coordinate referrals and the county will offer services too.
“This is simply the right thing to do,” Archbishop Jerome Listecki said in a statement.
