ProHealth Care is pausing construction of its new Mukwonago hospital in response to the COVID-19 crisis, according to a Friday statement.
The project involves transforming the health system’s existing medical campus into a 24-bed hospital, which was set to open this summer. There are about three months of construction work remaining.
The health system hopes to open the new hospital late this year.
“At this time, we need to focus all of our time and resources on addressing the current public health crisis,” CEO Susan Edwards said in a statement.
Other health systems have delayed projects. Advocate Aurora Health recently announced it was postponing the opening of a new medical center.
Advocate Aurora Health said last week that it was re-evaluating capital projects across the system “as a result of the significant increased operating expenses and lost revenues.”
They’re planning to continue construction projects except renovation work in existing hospital facilities. And they’ve also left decision-making to general contractors if they want to pause projects, the statement noted.
“We are focused on battling COVID-19 and have directed capital and operating investments to achieve this objective,” Advocate Aurora said in a statement.
