Wisconsin shatters record for new daily COVID-19 cases

Wisconsin reported 2,034 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, setting a record for the most cases reported in a single day. The total is now 94,746.

The state’s previous record, set on Sept. 4, was 1,498 cases. The Department of Health Services at the time attributed it to laboratory test reporting issues.

Three more deaths brought the total to 1,231.

There were 11,445 more people tested, bringing the total to 1,399,470. The positivity rate was 17.8 percent.

The seven-day positivity rate was 14.3 percent, and the average number of new daily cases over the past week was 1,409.

According to the Wisconsin Hospital Association, there were 347 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, a single-day decline of 23. There were 103 in intensive care units, the same as Wednesday.
