FDA, firm battle over tainted wipes

Federal regulators say a New York medical products maker promised in June to recall alcohol pads it found contaminated with a potentially deadly bacterium, but then failed to launch that recall for nearly four months. The bacterium killed a 2-year-old Houston boy last year. In a federal lawsuit, the boy's family alleges he was sickened by a sterile alcohol pad made by Wisconsin-based Triad Group, which was raided by U.S. marshals in April. (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 9/29)
