Health chair: More abortion bills possible this session

Representative Erik Severson, R-Star Prairie, chair of the Assembly health committee, told Wisconsin Health News that legislation restricting abortion is possible this session.

“It’s possible that some of those bills could be coming,” said Severson in a wide-ranging interview discussing his health care priorities for the session. Severson, an emergency room doctor, declined to describe any specific measures, however.

Pro-life advocates scored a series of victories late last session when Governor Scott Walker signed bills requiring doctors to consult privately with women seeking an abortion, repealing the Healthy Youth Act and prohibiting the coverage of abortions through health plans sold through exchanges.
