OCI says it will allow insurers to renew canceled plans

Governor Scott Walker’s administration said last week that it will accept President Obama’s request to allow insurers to renew health plans that are not compliant with the federal health reform law.

Wisconsin joins a list of red and blue states willing to accept the President’s proposal, but a number of states – including California, Washington and Utah – are not on board.

In an interview with Wisconsin Health News earlier this month, deputy insurance commissioner Dan Schwartzer said he expects few in Wisconsin will be impacted by the proposal because of the state’s emphasis on early renewals.
