Advocate Aurora Health to substantially expand clinical data shared through WISHIN Pulse

MADISON — (June 4, 2019) — The Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network (WISHIN), Wisconsin’s designated entity for Health Information Exchange (HIE), is pleased to announce that new sources of clinical data from Advocate Aurora Health will soon be available in the WISHIN Pulse community health record. The additional clinical data will enhance care-improvement and care- coordination efforts in Milwaukee County and throughout the state.

“Utilizing the power of electronic health information exchange is about doing what’s best for patients and building stronger relationships with other community providers,” says Dr. Fred Brodsky, Advocate Aurora Health’s VP of Population Health and Medical Integration. “The right data paints a more complete picture of a patient’s health. Ensuring that providers across the state have easy access to clinical data from the state’s largest health system via WISHIN leads to better clinical decisions, less duplication, more effective transitions of care and reduced administrative costs. And that is better for patients and clinicians alike.”

Advocate Aurora Health, one of WISHIN’s original participants, began sharing admit, discharge and transfer data and lab results through WISHIN Pulse in January 2014. In the coming months, AAH will begin sharing its electronic care summaries, transcribed reports, reference lab reports and radiology reports. “We’re hoping to have all the interfaces complete and the data live in the community health record later this year,” said Eric Abbott, Advocate Aurora’s IT Director of Partnerships and Innovation.

Data from more than 300 sites of care in 27 counties will give other providers access to a more complete medical record for their patients who have previously been treated in the Advocate Aurora system. “Empowering providers through reliable access to the right information in the right place at the right time lies at the heart of WISHIN’s mission,” said WISHIN CEO Joe Kachelski. “We’re proud to partner with Advocate Aurora Health to make the WISHIN Pulse community health record an even richer source of clinical records.”
