Wisconsin’s COVID-19 death toll surpasses 3,500

Wisconsin’s death toll for COVID-19 surpassed 3,500 people on Wednesday as health officials reported 82 more deaths.

The Department of Health Services said 3,502 people with the illness have died. DHS also reported 3,777 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 395,090.

DHS considers 65,926 cases active. The seven-day average for new daily cases fell to 3,664, while the seven-day average for daily reported deaths increased to 46.

An additional 9,983 people were tested, for a total of 2,557,706.

Meanwhile, positivity rates are ticking back up. The seven-day average positivity rate by person was 31 percent as of Tuesday, up from the 27.7 percent reported last Thursday and Friday.

The seven-day average positivity rate by test was 13.8 percent, up from the 12 percent reported last Wednesday and Friday.

There were eight COVID-19 patients at the surge facility in West Allis on Wednesday morning.
