More than 30 percent of Wisconsinites get COVID-19 shots

More than 30 percent of Wisconsinites have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, per state data released Wednesday.

Wisconsin vaccinators administered 2,813,475 doses of COVID-19 vaccine through Tuesday.

They gave 44,255 doses on Tuesday, with a seven-day average of 48,409 daily shots.

Per state data, 30.3 percent of the state’s population, or 1,765,007 Wisconsinites, have received at least one dose of a vaccine, and 17.9 percent, or 1,040,039 Wisconsinites, have completed their vaccination series.

The Department of Health Services reported 563 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, for a total of 577,195.

The state’s death toll is at 6,622 people, after DHS reported 10 more deaths.

An additional 17,539 Wisconsinites have been tested for COVID-19, for a total of 3,309,569. DHS said the high number of new people getting tested is due to a ramp-up in testing efforts and late reporting into the state’s surveillance system.

DHS considers 6,825 cases active.

The seven-day average for daily new cases is 470, down 31 from Tuesday and 18 from a week ago.

The seven-day average for daily new deaths is four, the same as Tuesday and down two from a week ago.

As of Tuesday, the seven-day positivity rate by test was 2.8 percent, the same as Monday and up 0.4 percentage points from a week earlier, per preliminary data from DHS.
