DHS reports most COVID-19 deaths since late February 

The Department of Health Services reported 34 new COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, the highest number since late February.

There were 52 deaths reported Feb. 25.

The state’s death toll from the illness is now 6,807 people.

DHS reported 688 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, for a total of 596,552.

An additional 5,123 Wisconsinites have been tested for COVID-19, for a total of 3,434,656.

DHS considers 8,961 cases active.

The seven-day average for daily new cases is 612, up eight from Tuesday and down 59 from a week ago.

The seven-day average for daily new deaths is 12, up four from Tuesday and eight from a week ago.

As of Tuesday, the seven-day positivity rate by test was 3.2 percent, the same as Monday and down 0.2 percentage points from a week earlier, per preliminary data from DHS.

Wisconsin vaccinators administered 4,302,648 doses of COVID-19 vaccine through Tuesday.

They gave 36,173 doses on Tuesday, with a seven-day average of 39,705 daily shots.

Per state data, 42.5 percent of the state’s population, or 2,473,608 Wisconsinites, have received at least one dose of a vaccine, and 32.4 percent, or 1,889,058 Wisconsinites, have completed their vaccination series.
