Deal reached to avert UW Health nurses’ strike

UW Health nurses and administrators have reached an agreement to avert a strike.

According to a representative for SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin, the UW Hospital and Clinics Authority Board has approved the deal, which was also ratified by 97 percent of nurses.

The representative did not provide additional details. A press conference is planned for noon at the Capitol.

The strike was scheduled to run from Tuesday morning to Friday morning. UW Health nurses are calling for union recognition, which the health system says it can’t do due to a 2011 law curbing collective bargaining rights for most public employee union
