Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers President CEO John Bartkowski receives MCW honorary doctoral degree

SIXTEENTH STREET COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS PRESIDENT AND CEO JOHN BARTKOWSKI RECEIVES MCW HONORARY DOCTORAL DEGREE

Milwaukee, Wis. (May 14, 2015) – This week, Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers (SSCHC) President and CEO John Bartkowsi, DrPH, receives his honorary doctoral degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

Bartkowski is one of four local health leaders to be honored with a doctoral degree at MCW’s 102nd annual commencement event.

“I am honored to receive the MCW doctoral degree,” said Bartkowski. “The accolade serves as encouragement to continue increasing access to health care for people who face economic, language or cultural barriers.”

Since 1990, Bartkowski has served as president and CEO of SSCHC, which provides clinical care and behavioral health and social services for Milwaukee’s multicultural south side. Prior to that time, he was a special assistant to the City of Milwaukee’s Health Commissioner and a consultant to the Mayor of Milwaukee. He holds a doctorate in public health from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a Master of Science in Community Health Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Bartkowski’s passion for improving Wisconsin’s public health can be seen through his involvement in federal, state and local task forces, and leadership in organizations such as Wisconsin’s Public Health Council, the National Association of Community Health Centers, and the Wisconsin Primary Care Association.

“John’s impact on Wisconsin’s public health is something worth honoring,” said Julie Schuller, MD, executive vice president and vice president of clinical affairs for SSCHC. “Through SSCHC and his community involvement, he has impacted the state’s progress toward providing affordable, accessible health care for all Wisconsin residents.”
