World Class Eye Care Starts in Madison Wisconsin

(Madison, WI) Madison is home to a number of nonprofit organizations working to alleviate a wide variety of social, political, and environmental issues. These mission driven organizations do everything from clearing bike paths, to tutoring students, to providing free eye care. At a time where health care is a controversial topic, and adequate health care is still out of many people’s reach, Madison has its very own free eye clinic run through one of its hometown nonprofit organizations, Combat Blindness International, Inc (CBI).

CBI is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the access and delivery of eye care to individuals around the world. Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Madison, CBI has been at the forefront of delivering quality eye care to prevent blindness caused by many factors such as malnutrition, illness or physical damage.

Eye disease, vision impairment and blindness are major health concerns in both developed and developing countries. CBI is working to reduce that concern by providing free and low-cost, affordable eye care and consultation that not only saves vision, but also saves lives. For only twenty dollars, CBI can provide the necessary eye care services to save someone’s eyesight, providing him or her not only with the ability to see, but also a more promising future full of sight.

Many organizations are reaching out to help CBI in the fight again blindness. Most recently, EPIC, the electronic medical records company headquartered in Verona, donated $3,000 to Combat Blindness International. With this donation, EPIC has saved the vision of 150 people around the world. In some of the remote parts of the world that CBI reaches, that is an entire community. In March, the Trans-Siberian

Orchestra donated almost $3,000 as well, giving almost 150 more people the gift of sight.

Combat Blindness International has held a powerful influence in the fight against blindness, and even hosts an annual event devoted to the cause. World Sight Day will be held this year on October 3. The celebration plans are well underway. The event will be held at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery Town Center and the keynote speaker will be renowned blind sailor, Scott Duncan.
