Contacts: Marketing & Communications, Sacred Heart Hospital, (715) 717-4256

Eau Claire, WI – Sacred Heart Hospital is sharing its recently completed community health needs assessment report with the public.

The 16-page document, which also includes the hospital’s community benefit plan and implementation strategy, is available on Sacred Heart Hospital’s internet site today, June 29. To view the health needs assessment report, visit www.sacredhearteauclaire.org under “Who We Are” then “Our Community Commitment.”

The purpose of the health needs assessment is to identify key areas of health care needs in Sacred Heart Hospital’s service area, which includes Eau Claire County and surrounding communities, and to prioritize those needs. Sacred Heart Hospital is using the information to help identify available resources and to plan future efforts to improve the health status of people living in the Chippewa Valley.

As part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, all hospitals will be required to submit a health needs assessment report to the Internal Revenue Service to show how tax-exempt hospitals provide and report benefit to the community. Providing community benefit is required for hospitals to be tax-exempt charitable organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The report details what residents view as health needs in the community. Residents identified the top three needs in Sacred Heart Hospital’s service area as mental health, chronic disease prevention and management, and AODA (alcohol and other drug abuse).
