State seeks public input on recommendations to strengthen emergency medical services

MADISON— State health officials today encouraged the public to review and provide input on a recent assessment of the Wisconsin Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system that was carried out by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). Wisconsin’s EMS system includes statewide partnerships that incorporate ambulance and other services.
“I encourage the public to review the NHTSA report and identify the recommendations that are the highest priorities for Wisconsin,” said Karen McKeown, Wisconsin Division of Public Health Administrator. “We want to get feedback from traditional and non-traditional partners, advocates and individuals from around the state.”
NHTSA has provided assessments of Wisconsin’s EMS system in 1990 and 2001, and the state asked for another assessment this year to evaluate progress toward earlier recommendations and to assess current status. NHTSA evaluators indicated that Wisconsin made significant progress in the past 22 years, and provided many recommendations on how to strengthen the Wisconsin EMS system going forward.
