Madison, Wis., - This year’s preliminary list of Wisconsin Forward Award winners is out and for the first time ever SSM Health Care of Wisconsin (SSMHC/WI) has achieved the highest level possible – the Wisconsin Forward Award of Excellence!  This marks the second time the system has applied for a Forward Award as a region.  The application included St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison, St. Clare Hospital and St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo and St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital.

Receiving recognition at the level of excellence means SSM Health Care of Wisconsin hospitals have management excellence with superior results that are clearly evident.

In congratulating the organization, Wisconsin Forward Award examiners said, “SSMHC/WI demonstrates several best practices, including the system-wide organizational ethics effort, its Corporate Responsibility Process (CRP), the Steal Shamelessly program, and the Emerging Leaders program. The CRP is recognized nationally as a best practice.”

Examiners also said, “SSMHC/WI demonstrates visionary leadership through embedding of its mission, vision, and values into its organizational culture,” adding, “The organization maintains a focus on results and creating value as evidenced by financial stability within a challenging industry and uncertain reimbursement climate.”

“Excellence level recognition for the Wisconsin Forward Award is truly an honor met by only a few of the finest organizations in the state of Wisconsin,” says Gaurov Dayal, Interim Regional President & CEO of SSM Health Care of Wisconsin.  “We are very proud of this accomplishment, which recognizes our quality practices, business results and constant efforts to learn more and improve. It is a tribute to our history of exceptional patient and resident care and to the spirit of collaboration and shared learning which unite our hospitals and care centers.”

Wisconsin Forward Award, the state’s premier organization for the promotion and recognition of high-performance practices, will honor award recipients at a ceremony and reception sometime this fall. The ceremony will also celebrate the accomplishments of hundreds of Wisconsin organizations that have benefited from the program’s services and learning opportunities, as well as the tens of thousands of hours of service that its Volunteer Board of Examiners has contributed.

SSM Health Care of Wisconsin owns and operates three hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities in Wisconsin. In addition to St. Clare Hospital and St. Clare Meadows Care Center (Baraboo), St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Care Center (Madison), and St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital, SSMHC/WI affiliated hospitals include Columbus Community Hospital, Stoughton Hospital and Upland Hills Health (Dodgeville). SSMHC/WI is part of St. Louis-based SSM Health Care; the nation’s first health care organization awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
