MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc. has again earned “Excellent” accreditation status from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

In an annual evaluation of health plans, NCQA bestowed the top-tier accreditation upon Security Health Plan’s commercial and Medicaid plans. Security Health Plan’s commercial plans have earned this rating since 2002, and the Medicaid plans have held this rank since 2011.

Plans with the highest level of accreditation can generally be expected to provide better care and service than plans with lower levels of accreditation. All accredited plans demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, according to the NCQA.

“Excellent” status is based on specific measurements of care and service, as well as on detailed customer satisfaction results. The accreditation status is so specific that it allows an apples-to-apples comparison of health plans.

“To earn ‘Excellent’ accreditation is really a compliment to our members and our network of providers,” said Security Health Plan Health Quality Officer Jane Wolf. “It reflects on our members’ serious approach to their own health care, responding to the recommendations of their doctors and their health plans.”

“Excellent” accreditation reflects on our network of health care providers who work diligently and compassionately on their patients’ behalf, she said.

NCQA is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care. Since its founding in 1990, NCQA has been a central figure in driving improvement throughout the health care system, helping to elevate the issue of health care quality to the top of the national agenda.

NCQA develops quality standards and performance measures for a broad range of health care organizations. These measures and standards are the tools that can be used to identify areas of care that need improvement. By reporting the results of these evaluations to the public every year, NCQA informs the public and helps drive the American health care system to a higher level of performance
