Mercy Health Foundation kicks off public fundraising campaign

Oshkosh, Wis. – The Mercy Health Foundation has announced its “to be continued” fundraising campaign and will be asking the community for help in reaching its $1.7 million goal.
The “to be continued” campaign is in its final phase will bring state-of-the art cancer care and support services close to home at Mercy Medical Center. Currently the Mercy service area of Winnebago, Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties is experiencing significantly higher cancer rates than the state of Wisconsin as a whole. The local cancer rates demonstrate the vital need for local and high quality cancer care.
The campaign raised more than $1.4 million during its quiet phase and is now asking the community to help reach its 2013 charitable goal of $1.7 million. Mercy Health Foundation contributors have already helped Mercy Medical Center complete a much-needed technology update that includes a new TrueBeam linear accelerator for radiation treatment and a wide bore CT scanner simulator in the Michael D. Wachtel Cancer Center.
“We are extremely thankful for the faithful Mercy Health Foundation donors who have been so generous during our quiet phase,” said Bill Calhoun, FACHE, eastern region vice president for Ministry Health Care and president of Mercy Medical Center. “The donations of our good friends have helped us purchase the latest in technology for cancer treatment, and now it’s time to focus on enriching the support programs available for our patients and their families. We are inviting the community to help us during the public phase to raise the remaining $271,000 needed to reach our goal of $1.7 million.”
Donations will enhance patient-centered care services at Mercy Medical Center. These additional services include:
- The creation of a new cancer coordinator position to guide patients through diagnosis and treatment. The coordinator will serve as liaison between patients, providers and support services.
- The construction of a patient guidebook to act as a comprehensive reference guide for patients and their families.
- Expanded palliative care services for symptom and care management and advanced care planning.
- Basic needs funding for low-income patients.
- Rehabilitation through the PEACE Exercise and Relaxation Program.
- Support services that follow a patient into survivorship.
