Insurers post second quarter financials

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shied of Wisconsin and Compcare Health Services Insurance Corp. recorded 8 percent profit margins through the second quarter of 2013. The two Milwaukee-based insurers also saw enrollment spikes of 20 percent or more since 2012's second quarter. (WHN, 10/9)

Milwaukee County could lose oversight of mental health care

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Meg Kissinger reports: "State Reps. Joe Sanfelippo (R-West Allis) and Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) said Monday that bold change needs to take place to improve conditions for patients at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex, citing the problems outlined in the Journal Sentinel series 'Chronic Crisis.'" Fee schedule not among workers' comp recommendations from Knodl, legislators

Absent from a list of recommendations from Rep. Dan Knodl, R-Germantown, and other legislators to the Workers' Compensation Advisory Council last week was any mention of a fee schedule based on Medicare rates. Proposed by the council's management members as a way to clamp down on health care costs, the idea has been fiercely opposed by members of the medical community. Knodl tells Wisconsin Health News he's not necessarily against a fee schedule, but is open to looking at alternatives. (WHN, 10/7)

Kindred, state's largest nursing home, wants to close Greenfield facility

Lydia Mulvany of the Journal Sentinel reports: “Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, the largest nursing home in the state and formerly known as Mount Carmel, is requesting permission from the state Department of Health Services to close, according to a news release on its website.” (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/7)
