Mendota Mental Health Institute honored for its inpatient psychiatric care

MADISON–Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) has been named as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditorof health care organizations in America.  MMHI, which is operated by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), received this honor for achieving excellence in performance on its accountability measures during 2012 for the Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services (HBIPS) measure set. The honor recognizes MMHI’scommitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes.

“I am extremely proud and pleased that Mendota Mental Health Institute has been recognized for its success in a challenging and sensitive field,” said DHS Secretary Kitty Rhoades. “I am confident MMHI will continue to be a national leader in psychiatric treatment for generations to come.”

MMHI, located in Madison, Wisconsin, provides court-ordered inpatient psychiatric services for individuals from all over the state.

Mendota Mental Health Institute, which opened in 1860, is recognized as one of the most progressive psychiatric facilities in the country. MMHI’s forensic psychiatry program is considered among the best in the nation, and it has pioneered methods for inpatient and community psychiatric programs used throughout Wisconsin, the United States, and abroad.
