MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., has again been recognized among the nation’s leading health plans by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for its Advocare Medicare Advantage plans.

For its 2014 plans, Security Health Plan received an overall rating of 4.5 in the five-star rating the federal agency uses to rank Medicare Advantage and Part D Prescription Drug plans.

“We’re extremely proud of our star rating,” said Steve Youso, Security Health Plan’s chief administrative officer. “Few Medicare health plans in the nation receive an overall star rating of 4.5 or five stars. While it will always be our goal to attain five stars, our 4.5-star rating demonstrates our commitment to providing the quality of services our members deserve.”

Youso explained that the rating reflects summary star ratings from CMS of five stars for health plan services and 4.5 stars for drug plan services. The ratings reflect the plan’s clinical quality, the services its members receive and their satisfaction with these services. Plan performance star ratings are assessed each year and may change from one year to the next.

Security Health Plan has worked with health care providers and members to manage members’ health, which has led to this high rating, Youso said.

“We use mailings and personal phone calls to remind our members about needed health care,” he said. “Our nurses visit members at their homes and in the hospital to answer questions they have about medications or ongoing care, and to ensure they have everything they need to be as healthy as possible.”

Security Health Plan offers six different Advocare plans designed to improve the quality of care members receive, increase members’ satisfaction with their care and service, and control the cost of care.

Medicare beneficiaries can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan or make plan changes through Dec. 7. Security Health Plan currently is holding seminars throughout its 40-county service area, where interested people can learn more about Advocare plans.
