MARSHFIELD – The next 10 days could be the busiest yet for enrollment through the Health Insurance Marketplace, as Wisconsinites take steps to ensure health insurance coverage and take advantage of tax subsidies that can lower premium costs.

The first open enrollment period for the Health Insurance Marketplace endsMarch 31. Anyone wanting coverage by April 1 will need to sign up by March 15. Enrollment after March 15 is not effective until May 1. For most people, this is the last chance to purchase health insurance coverage for 2014.

“We’re anticipating a rush of enrollment applications this weekend,” said Marty Anderson, director of marketing consumer products at Security Health Plan. “We expect we’ll get applications from people losing coverage through the elimination of the Health Insurance Risk-Sharing Plan (HIRSP), and eligibility changes to BadgerCare Plus. Nearly 60,000 central, western and northern Wisconsin residents who have no insurance coverage know this is their final chance this year to purchase insurance coverage and possibly qualify for help in paying their premiums.”

Since enrollment began in October 2013, approximately 19,000 Wisconsinites have purchased Security Health Plan coverage that complies with the Affordable Care Act, Anderson said.

“We’re holding enrollment fairs throughout the area, right up to the sign-up deadline,” Anderson said. “A complete list of enrollment fairs can be found atwww.securityhealth.org. We’re also inviting people to call us or stop in at our Marshfield and Wausau offices to enroll in coverage. We can help them enroll through the Health Insurance Marketplace.”
