Sacred Heart Hospital named Practice Greenhealth Partner for Change

Hospital formally acknowledged for environmentally preferable practices

Eau Claire, WI – Sacred Heart Hospital was awarded the 2014 “Greenhealth Partner for Change” Award by Practice Greenhealth, an international conference on environmentally sustainable healthcare. The award – which was given to the hospital on June 5 in Cleveland at the CleanMed Conference & Exhibition – honors outstanding environmental achievements in the health care sector.

The Greenhealth Partner for Change Award recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source reduction programs. To be considered, facilities must recycle at least 15 percent of their total waste, have reduced regulated medical waste and are well along the way to mercury elimination.

“All of us at Sacred Heart Hospital work as a team to set our environmental goals and strive to not just meet but exceed them,” said Julie Manas, president & CEO, Sacred Heart Hospital. “We are honored to be recognized for our efforts in helping to create an environmentally sustainable health care institution.”

In 2013, among other things, Sacred Heart Hospital:

Donated:

  • 6,384 items such as crutches, walkers, beds, furniture and medical equipment to Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, a medical surplus recovery organization focused on meeting the healthcare needs of developing nations
