Dean Medicare Plans Receive 5-Star Rating from CMS Fourth Year in a Row

MADISON Wis. (October 23, 2014) – Madison-based Dean Health Plan is one of only 11 plans nationwide to receive the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS)  five-star rating—the highest possible quality ranking—for private Medicare insurance plans and Medicare Advantage plans.

The star ratings are the result of CMS efforts to raise the quality of care provided by private Medicare plans.  Specifically, the CMS ranking system gives an objective assessment of a health plan’s quality and service and helps cut through the clutter when choosing Medicare coverage. Medicare ranks how well health plans perform on more than 50 measures, which are grouped into different categories:

  1. Staying Healthy: Screenings, Tests and Vaccines
  2. Managing Chronic (Long-Term) Conditions
  3. Plan Responsiveness and Care
  4. Member Complaints, Problems Getting Services and Choosing to Leave the Plan
  5. Health Plan Customer Service

“The star ratings are an important tool for seniors looking for the optimal health care for their money. Our four years of 5-star ratings further solidifies Dean Health Plan as coverage of choice for the Medicare-eligible in our service area,” says Frank Lucia, President and CEO of Dean Health Plan.

This year’s Medicare enrollment season runs from October 15 to December 7.  You can view plan and rating information on the Medicare Web site at medicare.gov, or go to deancare.com/medicare.  DeanCare Gold is a Medicare-approved Cost plan available to Medicare-eligible residents in Dane Columbia Dodge, Grant, Iowa, Jefferson, Rock and Sauk County.
