Security Health Plan formally renewed for Health Insurance Marketplace

MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., has again been recognized as a Qualified Health Plan by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), able to offer health insurance coverage in 2015 through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

“The Marketplace makes it easier to buy affordable health insurance, which gives individuals and families better access to health care, something they may have gone years without,” said John Kelly, chief marketing officer, Security Health Plan. “Last year, thousands of our friends and neighbors got the coverage many of them had gone for years without and our new members are getting the health care they need.”

Only an insurance company approved as a Qualified Health Plan is eligible to offer coverage through the Marketplace. Purchasing a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace is the only way consumers can receive a tax credit to help meet health care costs.

Beginning Saturday, November 15, consumers will be able to compare plan options, calculate what tax subsidy they might qualify for and enroll in a plan at www.securityhealth.org/myplans. Open enrollment period will end Febuary 15, 2015.

The Health Insurance Marketplace was launched a year ago as part of the Affordable Care Act. According to statistics from the state Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, Security Health Plan led Wisconsin in member enrollments with almost 25,000 new individual and family enrollments through the Marketplace.

“We expect everyone will have an easier time enrolling this year, thanks to improvements to the healthcare.gov online enrollment system,” Kelly said. “Just the same, to make sure anyone who needs health care coverage can get health care coverage, we’ll conduct a vigorous campaign to help get a plan that meets those needs.”

Members and prospective members are invited to attend no-obligation enrollment fairs where Security Health Plan specialists will be on hand to answer questions and help with enrollment. For details about the fairs, go to www.securityhealth.org

The first year’s experience with the Marketplace also gave Security Health Plan the chance to refine plan options it offers to consumers, Kelly said.

“When we looked carefully at our portfolio of plans we realized we needed to give Wisconsinites additional low-cost choices. This year we’ve added more options that qualify for the tax credit and cost sharing,” Kelly said. “By making health insurance affordable, we’re making high-quality health care affordable.”
