Madison Women’s Health attains patient quality recognition

First Wisconsin clinic to attain SCOPE Certification

MADISON, WI, January 23, 2015 – Madison Women’s Health LLP is the first, and currently only clinic in Wisconsin to hold a prestigious safety certification.

The women’s health clinic, located on the near west side of Madison, recently attained the Safety Certification in Outpatient Practice Excellence (SCOPE) through the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Madison Women’s Health is one of only 46 clinics in the nation to attain this certification.

”The process to attain this certification involved looking at all of our processes, procedures and equipment to make sure we have the safest patient experience possible. The whole process took over a year and involved every provider and staff person,” stated Mary Stoffel, M.D., Medical Director for Madison Women’s Health. “We’ve always felt we did things the right way; this just ensures that it is done in a repeatable fashion.”

SCOPE is a voluntary comprehensive patient safety review program that assesses the implementation and use of patient safety concepts and techniques in the office settings where obstetrical and/or gynecological services are provided. These certified techniques aim to reduce the risk of medical errors and ultimately lead to positive patient outcomes.

The process to attain the certification also involved a thorough independent onsite review by outside medical experts. Ongoing training, preparedness drills and review of procedures is an important part of the SCOPE expectation, and is part of the clinic’s everyday life.

“Our patients expect that things will be done in a safe manner. The SCOPE certification gives them a greater peace of mind that this will happen,” Dr. Stoffel added.

Madison Women’s Health’s mission is to inspire women to lead healthy, balanced lives so they can be the best version of themselves.
