Security Health Plan welcomes new officers, Board of Directors members

MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., has elected new officers to its Board of Directors and welcomed two new Board members.

Officers elected include:

–        Board chair – former telecommunications executive Michael Luebke, Pound.

–        Vice chair – Dr. Matthew Thomas, a Marshfield Clinic physician practicing in Minocqua who also is Marshfield Clinic Board of Directors treasurer.

–        Secretary – Dr. Ivan Schaller, a Clinic physician practicing in Wausau who chairs the Clinic’s Board of Directors.

–        Treasurer – retired health insurance executive Tim Peterson, Excelsior, Minnesota.

“I’m proud to be chosen to lead the Board, knowing the challenges we are facing,” said Luebke. “It’s a chaotic time, with the technological changes that are happening, intense competition and implementation of the Affordable Care Act. But one constant is the determination to maintain the high quality of services that members expect from Security Health Plan at an affordable price.”

Luebke’s career has included leadership roles in major information technology firms that processed nearly a billion health care claims annually. He has testified before congressional committees about information technology and innovations in health care. He also taught leadership and organizational development as well as strategic management for Concordia University of Wisconsin’s MBA program at the Green Bay Center.

“We’re fortunate to have someone like Mike who understands how the health insurance business is evolving,” said Julie Brussow, chief executive officer, Security Health Plan. “His professional background aligns with our goal to develop innovative and affordable products that our customers want and need.”

The Board of Directors also welcomed two new members:

Mary Jo Johnson – CEO and owner of EO Johnson Business Technologies, Wausau. She holds leadership roles within her industry and community. A graduate of Lawrence University, Appleton, she received the Lewis Prize, awarded to the highest GPA in a graduating class. She received the Athena Award in 2000, presented for professional excellence, community leadership and actively assisting women in attaining professional excellence and leadership skills. “I’m excited to join Security Health Plan’s Board of Directors. I see really good leadership with this organization,” Johnson said. “Security Health Plan has a strong commitment to improving care, managing costs and is active in the community. If you are part of the community, you have to give back to the community and I see Security Health Plan is doing that.”

Terry Frankland – president and CEO, V&H Trucks of Marshfield, a national leader in the field of heavy trucks and equipment. A Marshfield native, Frankland graduated from Madison Area Technical College with a degree in accounting. He joined V&H Trucks in 1986 and has seen the company grow especially during the past quarter century with more than 300 employees and operations in Kansas and North Carolina, as well as multiple locations in Wisconsin. “To the Board of Directors I bring a business-world background,” Frankland said. “I understand the employer’s perspective of providing quality health care coverage for employees.”

“We are extremely pleased Mary Jo and Terry have agreed to serve on Security Health Plan’s Board,” said Brussow. “They bring a wealth of business experience and a keen understanding of area residents’ needs; share our passion for improving the quality of health care within the communities we serve and will be excellent assets to our Board.”
