National health and business organizations – the National Business Group on Health and the CEO Roundtable on Cancer – have recognized Anthem, Inc. (Anthem), Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin’s parent company, for promoting healthier lifestyles to its employees. The organizations highlight programs that range from encouraging employees and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles to supporting cancer care survivors in the workplace.

The honors include:

  • 2015 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles® Platinum award from The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large U.S. employers, for Anthem’s dedication to promoting a healthy work environment and encouraging its employees and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles.
  • CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ re-accreditation from the CEO Roundtable on Cancer for maintaining a strong commitment to the health of Anthem’s employees and establishing and promoting programs that reduce cancer risks, provide access to cancer care and support cancer survivors in the workplace.

“At Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, we strive to create an environment where it’s easier to make healthy choices, participate in results driven wellness programs, promote overall wellbeing and reward healthy outcomes,” said Larry Schreiber, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin. “We’re committed to providing the best workplace environment possible and the recognition by these organizations reinforces the work we’ve done so far.”

Anthem employees are offered a robust benefits package that includes health and wellness offerings such as on-site fitness centers or health club reimbursements, subsidized healthy food options at its on-site cafeterias, friendly fitness competitions among its employees, weight management programs and incentives toward the cost of health care coverage for demonstrating healthy behaviors including smoking cessation – promoting an overall healthy lifestyle.

Recent Anthem employee survey results indicate 92 percent of respondents agreed that Anthem wellness programs are helping them take personal accountability for their health.

Anthem has been honored with Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles® every year since 2008 and achieved Platinum status for the fourth year in a row and has earned CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ accreditation from the CEO Roundtable on Cancer in February of 2013 and has been re-accredited every year since.
